Dear Friendship, A Thank You Note
To everyone out there who has been lucky enough to have felt the magical support of a friend,
You were going through a tough break-up, your heart was shattered, and you needed someone to vent to, whether late at night or over an impromptu visit. Your confidant was there, listening to your failed love story and even taking you out for a drink or a walk to make you feel better. Regardless of whether it was on a stormy night or a warm summer evening, you were not alone.
“Was I the one who should have apologized?”
“No. Of course not.” would have been the magic words. Because no matter what, a friend will always have your back in times of great need and heartache.
You landed a new job, the one you were targeting for so long, and even went through a difficult hiring process, but you finally got it! You couldn’t wait to take your best friend out and celebrate, while making sure you went through the whole story of how difficult it was, of all your insecurities, and how excited you were to start. Your buddy would beam with pride, offering the kind of encouragement only they can give.
“What if I am not going to meet their expectations?”
“You will ace it! I believe in you!”
And then there are the ordinary days… where you feel like sharing the most common moments with them. Sending a fun meme on Instagram, commenting on the latest gossip over the phone during your daily commute, or enjoying a quiet Saturday over a coffee and some light life philosophy. It is the simple moments…
We are social creatures, we thrive when we belong in a community, or a small and intimate friends circle. We need to be reassured, listened to, and supported.
Friendship is unconditional, never judging, and emotional. It celebrates without envy, and it listens without expecting anything in return.
It is in moments like these that friends lift us when we are down, show us the light when everything feels hopeless, tell us when we are wrong, but support us all the way.
